Panasonic HDC-SD9 camcorder

Panasonic camcorders it seems that color saturation has finally been boosted, however, in outdoor shooting there sometimes is a tendency for oversaturation. Although the camcorder works really well in bright sunlight, it does not perform equally well in low light. The quality of the recorded images is really good and can be adjusted thanks to the four quality options. Panasonic HDC-SD9 can record in HA (17Mbps), HG (13Mbps) which record in 1920 x 1080 and can capture in either 1080/60i or 1080/24P, HX (9Mbps) records in 1920 x 1080 but can’t capture 24P,
Panasonic HDC-SD9 records only to SDHC and SD memory cards and although 32GB cards have been recently released it seems that this camcorder is compatible only with up to 16 GB cards.
There are also a few Scene modes, including Surf & Snow, Portraits, Spotlight and Sports – not a very impressive list and for sure shorter than in camcorders made by Sony, or Canon. Zoom in the latest Panasonic camcorder is fine. The optical zoom extends to 10x and the digital one to 25x or 700x.

Hands-On with the Lumix DMC-ZS3 and DMC-TS1

Panasonic plans to introduce two AVCHD Lite cameras in April, the Lumix DMC-ZS3 and DMC-TS1, both $399 but targeted to very different photographers. The 10-megapixel ZS3 (the replacement for the TZ5) has a 12x optical zoom with a nice range of 28-300mm and a big 3-inch LCD screen. It’s also 10 percent slimmer than the already thin TZ5. The 12MP TS1 with a 4.6x zoom starting at 28mm is Panasonic’s first entry in the ever-growing “tough” category of digicams popularized by the Olympus Stylus SW series. You can drop this baby 5 feet and take it underwater for capturing stills or HD video.

The two digicams have iA Movie, similar to the Intelligent Auto mode for photos found in Lumix models. Engage it and the camera decides the proper exposure, engages optical image stabilization, face detection and will even pick the proper scene mode. It’s about as aim-and-forget as you can get.

DigitalTrends had the chance to put the two cameras through their paces at the Lumix Global Seminar in Miami. Since these were pre-production models they were prone to freeze-ups but this is hardly out of the ordinary for practically hand-made units. After shooting we took the SD cards out and reviewed the stills and movies on a 50-inch plasma. It was here we experienced the excellent video—even from early sample cameras. Naturally we’ll do more thorough tests when the real-deal arrives.

8MP Samsung Memoir Appears on T-Mobile

Samsung have yet to come to fruition, the company did meet rumormongers halfway Thursday morning by pulling the sheet off its already-leaked Memoir. T-Mobile officially announced the new phone in a recent press release.

Much like the company’s camera phones in other countries, the SGH-t929 boasts a full 8-megapixel camera for snapping high-resolution still pictures, which is accompanied by a Xenon flash, 16x digital zoom, and five different shooting modes.

Other features include a A-GPS, 3G connectivity, and the ability to upload pictures taken with the camera directly to photo sharing sites like flickr, Kodak Gallery and Photobucket.

Samsung Intros Two 12MP Cameras

Samsung has introduced two new 12 megapixel shooters, the TL320 and HZ15W. Samsung says the TL320 is the first camera to feature a 3-inch AMOLED display with HVGA resolution; meanwhile, the HZ15W sports a 10× optical zoom and both optical and digital image stabilization.
The TKL320 technically offers a 12.2 megapixel resolution, a 5× optical zoom, that 3-inch HVGA AMOLED display, and the ability to record 720p high-definition video and push it back out to a TV via HDMI—although an optional cradle is needed. The TL320 sports both optical and digital image stabilization, a full manual mode for folks who want to control every detail of a shot, along with consumer friendly features like face detection, smile detection, and blink detection. The camera has built-in functions to correct red-eye, and advanced picture mode that can automatically adjust color tones, and dual analog gauges that display available battery life and storage capacity.
The HZ15W comes in with an even 12 megapixels of resolution and the aforementioned 10× optical zoom. The camera features a 3-inch plain-old TFT-LCD display, the ability to capture 720P video, image stabilization (optical and digital), plus face-smile-blink detection.
